The Apostles’ Creed, Ecumenical Version
I would like to begin this blog series by looking at some basic beliefs of the Christian faith as it has been understood over the centuries by the leaders of most of the Christian churches. My intent is not to teach any specific denominational doctrine, but simply to lay a foundation that is consistent with most Christian denominations. It is my firm commitment that Christians need to spend more time seeking to find where they agree instead of nit-picking over their differences.
I will publish my first series of posts based on the Ecumenical version of The Apostles’ Creed as found in the United Methodist Hymnal (copyright 1989) on page 881. Over the next few days/weeks I will write short posts on bite-sized sections of the creed. But first let’s read the full creed.
The Apostles’ Creed – Ecumenical Version
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
On the third day he rose again;
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
to judge the living and the dead.
