Brief overview of the passages for this week:
Leviticus
- Moral laws and consequences for breaking them
- The Sabbath
- Special feasts and seasons for Israelites
- Conditions for God’s blessings
Numbers
- The Israelites took a census according to the clans and families.
- The area was sectioned off by tribes around the Tent of Meeting.
- Rules developed on purity and sanitation
- Rules about sins against one another and restitution
- Nazarite vow
- Dedication of the Tabernacle – tribal offerings
- Levites cleansed and purified for service as priests under Aaron
Suggestions for things to look for:
- Make note of the different feasts required. They come up often in the Old Testament.
- Reading about a census can get monotonous. As you read through these pages, look for names that are familiar. They are likely to come up often in later readings.
- The Nazarite vow will come up again in later books of the Bible.
