Judges 8-21
The Israelites failed to possess the land following Joshua’s death. God sent several leaders to the Israelites, and when they followed their lead they did well. When they strayed and worshiped idols and foreign gods they sank into wickedness.

- Samson (weakness came through Delilah’s treachery)
- Israelites fail to keep God’s laws
Ruth
- A beautiful love story in only four chapters.
- Ruth, a Moabite widow and daughter-in-law of Naomi, an Israelite widow, is loyal to Naomi.
- Ruth’s loyalty is rewarded in that she marries Boaz.
- Ruth and Boaz will become David’s grandparents and are in the lineage of Jesus.
1 Samuel 1-3
- Hannah’s desperate prayer for a child, promised God if she had a child she would give it to the Lord.
- Samuel was born and presented to Eli, the priest, after he was weaned.
- Samuel hears God’s voice
- Samuel becomes prophet
