Brief overview of the passages for this week:
2 Kings & 2 Chronicles
- King Hezekiah almost dies, gets 15 more years in response to his prayer.
- God makes the shadows go backwards ten steps.
- Hezekiah shows wealth of the kingdom to Babylonians. Isaiah tells Hezekiah that Babylon will be back and take the wealth and people into captivity.
- Hezekiah dies, son Manasseh becomes next king of Judah.
- Manasseh rebuilt high places, altars, and Asherah poles to pagan gods, sacrificed his own son in the fire, and did more evil than any other king before him.
- Manasseh’s son Amon became the next king, did evil, served two years and was assassinated.
- Amon’s son, Joash, became next king of Judah, and he did right in the eyes of the LORD.
- Found scroll of the Book of the Law
- Read Book of the Law to the people
- Thoroughly removed all pagan shrines, altars, high places, idols and evil practices from Judah.
- Held Passover celebration in Jerusalem.
- Joash was killed in battle by Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt. His son Jehoahaz became king of Judah and did evil.
- King Jehoiakim became king of Judah after Joash and did evil in the eyes of the LORD.
Isaiah
Again, I will not attempt to summarize these chapters in Isaiah.
Naham
God sent Naham to prophesy against Ninevah 150 years after Jonah’s time. Ninevah had again become wicked as it was before Jonah’s message to them. Naham warned Ninevah that they would fall.
