Brief overview of the passages for this week:
Jeremiah
Jeremiah continued to tell the people God was going to bring judgement on the nation of Judah, but they didn’t listen.
Jeremiah warned the people that they would be captured and taken away to Babylon where they would stay for many years.
The people of Judah treated Jeremiah badly because they didn’t like what he said. He was eventually thrown into prison. While he was in prison, Jerusalem fell to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
2 Kings & 2 Chronicles
Jehoiakim king of Judah reigned for three months until Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem and took King Jehoiakim as prisoner and carried away all the gold and silver from the temple and took thousands of people captive to Babylon.
Zedekiah became king in Judah and reigned eleven years during a great famine. The Babylonians returned, gouged out Zedekiah’s eyes and took him captive to Babylon. They continued to destroy Judah burning down the temple, homes, and other important buildings.
Nebuchadnezzar set up a governor to rule over the people left in Judah.
