…[Jesus Christ] is seated at the right hand of the Father, …
What does that mean? …seated at the right hand of the Father. Two things come to mind for me:
Jesus is the most highly exalted being in all the heavens and earth. The Father God of the universe has reserved the throne to his right just for him. See Ephesians 1:20 and Philippians 2:5-11.
And what does that mean for us? Jesus is sitting beside the Father so he can serve as our “High Priest.” In Old Testament times and up until Jesus’ death on the cross, God expected people to come to him through the priests as they brought sacrifices to offer for their sins.
But Jesus’ death on the cross changed all that. Jesus became our sacrifice when he died. There was a veil – a heavy curtain – that separated the Father God’s presence in the temple from the common people. Only the High Priest could go behind that veil, and that only happened once a year. But when Jesus died on the cross, that heavy curtain was ripped in two – from the top down – something only God could have done. From that time on, people could approach the Father’s holy throne without going through the Jewish priests.
Not only that, but Jesus is there as our advocate. Jesus has walked on this earth in a human body and has experienced the hardships and temptations that we go through. He is there beside the Father praying for us and defending us. Read Hebrews 8.
