…[Jesus is coming again] …to judge the living and the dead.
Jesus is coming again! Christians all around the world rejoice in eager anticipation of the return of their Savior and Lord. They know that there are rewards awaiting them and that they will enjoy eternal life in Jesus’ glorious presence. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 and Revelation 22:12.
But not everyone will rejoice when Christ returns. Jesus said to his disciples, “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!” (Luke 21:25-28. NLT)
When Jesus walked on earth as a man, he came to offer his life as a sacrifice so that we might be saved. But when he returns, his mission will be very different. He will return as a judge.
“For he [the Father God] has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:31 NLT) See also 2 Timothy 4:1 and Jude 15.
