Read Through the Bible in a Year in Chronological Order
“How do you eat an elephant?” As you probably already know, the answer is, “one bite at a time.”
Here’s another question for you: How do you read the whole Bible? The answer – “One bite at a time.”
I decided to challenge my small Bible study group to read through the Bible starting in January. Then I learned from a friend about a Bible reading plan that leads the reader through the Bible in chronological order. Her church followed this plan a few years ago. I was intrigued by the idea and started putting it together.
I’ve created a Facebook group inviting people from anywhere and everywhere around the world to join us, and I plan to use this blog as a launch pad for the weekly posts. I hope we will have discussions in the blog comments as well as on the FB page.
I have created PDF files for the year’s schedule/plan as well as bookmarks for each week’s readings. Keep the tri-fold bookmarks in your Bible, and use the extra space for taking notes if you like.
Here is a copy of the year’s plan: Chronological Bible Reading Plan – weekly overview
I will upload the weekly bookmarks in another post in the next day or two, and plan to post on Saturdays with the weekly readings, an overview of the week’s passages, suggestions for things to look for, and some discussion questions.
I urge anyone anywhere to use these files and posts, and create your own group to take up the challenge. Then meet weekly to discuss what you learn. You will have the Holy Spirit as your teacher. There’s no way to teach everything you read, so don’t try. Just come together and share what you are learning. What is the Holy Spirit teaching you?
