We will read about Jacob’s last days followed by Joseph’s death in Egypt. Then we will begin reading about the birth of Moses in Egypt, his contests with Pharaoh, and his freeing the Israelites from slavery and leading them out of Egypt.

This week’s passages focus on Jacob, his life in Paddan Aram and his struggles with his Uncle Laban, and his return to Canaan. Then the focus changes to Jacob’s favorite son Joseph and his experiences in Egypt where he saves his family from a terrible famine.

This week we will finish reading about Job, and pick up with Abram, later renamed Abraham by God. Abraham became the first patriarch, the father of many nations – the chief nation being the Israelites and ultimately the genealogical line of Jesus the Christ.
