Those who began the “5x5x5 New Testament Bible Reading Plan” by Navigators in January will begin reading the book of Matthew on about April 7.

Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, and one of the four Gospels that tell the Good News of Jesus the Christ. Most Bible scholars believe this book was written by the Apostle Matthew, one of the Twelve Disciples.

Matthew begins his Gospel with the genealogy and birth of Jesus Christ. It also tells of the visit of the Maji or Wise Men, and King Herod’s attempt to kill the Christ child by killing all male children up to two years of age in Bethlehem and the surrounding area. Matthew’s account is strong in affirming that Jesus is the Messiah who brings salvation to Israel and all the world.

James

Those who began the “5x5x5 New Testament Bible Reading Plan” by Navigators in January will begin reading the book of James on about March 31.

James is believed to be written by the half-brother of Jesus who became a believer after Jesus was raised from the dead. This book is rich in understanding the role of a Christian. It is especially strong in encouraging Christians to put their faith into action. Only five chapters long, there is much to be gleaned from this short book.

Galatians

Those who began the “5x5x5 New Testament Bible Reading Plan” by Navigators in January will begin reading the book of Galatians on about March 23.

Paul wrote this letter to the churches in Galatia. A major concern is to address the false teachings of Judaism demanding Gentiles to also follow all the customs of the Jewish people including circumcision.

A well known passage is Galatians 5:22-23 which describes the fruits of the Spirit.

Hebrews

Those who began the “5x5x5 New Testament Bible Reading Plan” by Navigators in January will begin reading the book of Hebrews on about March 4.

The author of this book is not certain. Many have believed Paul wrote it, but Bible scholars generally agree it wasn’t Paul, but another well known saint from that period of time, perhaps Barnabus or Apollas. This letter is addressed to the Hebrews (Jews) who converted to Christianity and were being tempted to turn away from the faith.
